Ben Carr was elected Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre in June 2023. He currently serves as Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry and Technology (INDU) and Chair of the Prairies and North Caucus.
During the 44th Parliament, Ben served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs and as a member of the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Ben is a graduate of Carleton University and the University of Winnipeg, holding a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Bachelor of Education. He previously served as Vice-President of Indigenous Strategy Alliance, supporting Indigenous leadership and empowerment.
Ben was Principal of the nationally award-winning Maples Met High School and Divisional Principal in the Seven Oaks School Division. He began his teaching career at Robert H. Smith School in Winnipeg South Centre and later taught at Kelvin High School, where he also volunteered for many years as Head Coach of the Kelvin Clippers football team.
Ben has also served as Director of Parliamentary Affairs for the Minister of Canadian Heritage, helping advance legislation related to Indigenous languages and establishing September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
In recognition of his community leadership, Ben was named a CBC Manitoba Future 40 Leader.
Ben and his partner Amy live in Winnipeg South Centre with their dogs, Theodore and Lily.
