Ben Carr was elected Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre in June 2023. He serves on the Standing Committees of Indigenous and Northern Affairs and Agriculture and Agri-Food.
Ben was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is a graduate of Carleton University and the University of Winnipeg, having earned a Bachelor of Arts, Honours and a Bachelor of Education. He previously served as the Vice-President of Indigenous Strategy Alliance, an organization that seeks to support and empower Indigenous people in Canada.
Ben was the Principal of the nationally award-winning Maples Met High School, as well as Divisional Principal in the Seven Oaks School Division. He also volunteered with the Kelvin Clippers football team for many years as Head Coach. He began his teaching career at Robert H. Smith School located in Winnipeg South Centre and continued at Kelvin High School.
Ben has held various positions in the federal government, including Director of Parliamentary Affairs for the Minister of Canadian Heritage where he helped usher in legislation related to Indigenous languages, as well as establishing September 30 as a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
His track record of community leadership resulted in him being recognized as a CBC Manitoba Future 40 Leader.
Ben and his partner Amy live in Winnipeg South Centre with their dogs, Theodore and Lily.
